Who is responsible for teaching models how to model?

The Gap

An agent’s role is not to teach talent how to be talented. Sports agents do not teach athletes how to play their sport, literary agents do not teach writers how to write, and talent agents do not teach actors how to act. An agent’s role is to market and secure opportunities for talent, while the talent’s role is to develop and refine their craft.

However, the modeling industry functions differently. Because appearance is often the barrier to entry and skill development comes later, both aspiring and signed models frequently find themselves navigating the industry without the guidance, experience, or access to information needed to build confidence, professional skillsets, and long-term success.

Many models turn to agents for direction on how to model, yet most agents are not former models themselves and are therefore limited in their ability to teach modeling skills in a hands-on, effective way. They can tell you what they like or dislike, but often cannot provide the tools, coaching, or experience necessary to help create stronger results.

At the same time, agencies expect models to deliver high-level materials—digitals, self-tapes, imagery, posing, movement, and overall presentation—without giving them access to the education or preparation needed to produce professional-level work. This is where progress often stalls, frustration builds, and agents naturally shift their attention toward talent who already operate at a higher level and generate stronger client response.

If this resonates with you, you are in the right place.
